Massage Therapy

Registered Massage Therapy (RMT) is the manipulation of the body’s soft tissues. Massage therapy is a proven therapy to help restore the proper function of your muscles and joints.

Nico has a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from UBC and a Masters in Physiotherapy Studies from the University of Queensland, Australia. Before joining LVOSP, he maintained a busy sports medicine practice for amateur and professional athletes while at clinics in Whistler and Vancouver. He has trained with core rehabilitation experts, including prominent Australian physiotherapists, and with Alex McKechnie, physiotherapist for the Los Angeles Lakers and Toronto Raptors. In addition to completing many of his own professional continuing education courses, Nico has taught several clinical anatomy courses to physiotherapists.

Nico gained recognition for rehabilitating elite athletes with recalcitrant pelvic injuries. He has consulted for many NFL, NBA and NHL teams as well as for professional franchises in Europe. He has taught the Hard Core Strength program to local physiotherapists, to physiotherapists of the Barclays English Premier League (soccer) and, more recently, to the NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves. Nico was also a consultant to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the areas of core strengthening, athletic performance and injury prevention for more than three seasons (2010-2014). Nico was the keynote speaker at the 2009 Hockey Injuries and Sports Medicine Conference in Boston speaking about core related injuries and strengthening.

A life-long resident of North Vancouver, Nico has played soccer from age six, including years with the Vancouver 86ers/Whitecaps and with several junior national teams. Nico still enjoys being involved with soccer either as a player or now as a coach. Nico enjoys spending his free time with his wife and three children.

Steve was born and raised just east of Toronto. He attended The University of Toronto and graduated with an Honors degree in Biological Sciences in 1996, and a Bachelors degree in Physical Therapy in 2001. Steve has completed his Level 3 orthopaedic manual therapy and Functional Dry Needling/IMS training.

Following graduation in 2001, Steve moved to Vancouver and worked for seven years at Vancouver’s General Hospital in outpatient orthopaedic trauma and arthritis. He has been with Lynn Valey Physiotherapy since 2008.

Steve brings to our team extensive clinical experience in the management of arthritis symptoms and post-operative treatment following total hip and total knee replacement and orthopaedic trauma surgery. He has a keen interest in the management of sports related shoulder pain, knee pain and spinal related back and neck pain.

Steve spends his free time with his wife and two kids and pursuing hobies such as playing and coaching hockey, ultimate frisbee, skiing, golf and soccer.

Erin has a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from SFU and a Masters of Science in Physiotherapy from McMaster University graduating in 2003. She has an Advanced Diploma of Manual and Manipulative Therapy from the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Therapy and is certified to practice acupuncture by the Canadian Acupuncture Foundation Institute.

As a physiotherapist, Erin has worked with varsity athletes in numerous competitive sports, including rugby, track and field, wrestling, soccer, and softball. She has also worked with many patients recovering from MVAs, work related injuries and various musculoskeletal issues.

Erin has worked at LVOSP since 2007. With each of her clients, Erin provides an individualized approach using a combination of hands-on techniques, acupuncture or other appropriate modalities, education and exercise prescription. She uses real-time ultrasound to help her patients visualize and correctly use their deep abdominal muscles. Such core stability retraining is especially valuable for post-partum patients, and for those who are recovering from low back or pelvic injuries.

A lifetime resident of Lynn Valley, Erin went to Lynn Valley Elementary and Argyle Secondary. She has enjoyed many sports including track and field, swimming, soccer, volleyball, basketball, softball, kayaking, snowshoeing, running, yoga and dance. She now finds most of her hobbies involve her busy family with her husband and three kids. She looks forward to working with you and your family!

Kevin completed his Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy and his Bachelor of Human Kinetics at the University of British Columbia. He has been working as a physiotherapist since 2001, the majority of which has been spent here on the North Shore. He has completed all of the manual therapy levels in the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association.

His approach to physiotherapy involves a thorough assessment of the problem followed by treatment that combines manual therapy techniques, IMS and an exercise program designed specifically for that patient. He enjoys analyzing the movements involved in all sports and applies his knowledge of anatomy and biomechanics to help patients work through their injuries as fast as possible.

Kayla earned her Masters of Science in Physical Therapy from Queen’s University, after obtaining her Bachelors of Health Sciences with minor in Gerontology from the University of Ottawa. Since graduation, she has continued her education by regular research review and pursuing her manual therapy levels which will ultimately lead to a Diploma of Advanced Orthopaedic Manual and Manipulative Physiotherapy. She has also obtained her dry needling certification from Acupuncture Canada.

Kayla’s approach to physiotherapy is evidence-based, guided by individual client context. Her treatment plans integrate manual therapy, exercise prescription, and education. Lora has a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiotherapy from the University of British Columbia and has been working at LVOSP since 1999. She has completed post-graduate courses in Craniosacral Therapy, exercise for individuals with osteoporosis, pre- and post-natal exercise, and Pilates. Lora has an Advanced Diploma of Manual and Manipulative Therapy (FCAMT) and is a Certified Gunn IMS practitioner (CGIMS). Mark graduated with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Eastern Washington University in the U.S. He has worked in private practice orthopaedics as well as occupational rehab/chronic pain clinics. Mark has received advanced training from the McKenzie Institute for mechanical diagnosis and treatment of all areas of the spine (with an emphasis on neck and low back pain), continuing education in Functional Dry Needling/IMS, Mulligan mobilization with movement, along with focused courses on shoulder and knee rehabilitation to promote a return to pain-free function.
